Perhaps I’ve been cursed. September 19th– talk like a pirate day, Marianne’s wedding day, etc… will I remember this day for these things? Nope. I think this day might be cursed or unlucky for Sloanie. Unfortunately I don’t have my archives online currently, so I can’t post a link to it, but about a year ago I posted about the tragic loss of my hard drive and many precious files. Well I went back and looked and the date that my hard drive died was on September 19th, 2002.
So why do I say I’m cursed? Well, instead of writing about the wedding or anything I’ll just do one of the things I do best on here and complain about something that annoys me. About 9:30 pm I’m driving away from the Alpine Art Center where the reception was held. I’m headed west on SR 92 or whatever it is, the main highway that goes from Pleasant Grove to the Highland/Alpine freeway onramp by Thanksgiving Point. A freaking DEER ran out in front of my car! It happened so fast– we thought it was a person running across the highway– but a person would have seen us and stopped. I hit the brakes but couldn’t stop before I hit the thing and it flew off the hood of my car into the brush on the north side of the road. I wasn’t driving particularly fast, either, well under the speed limit. It was just one of those things completely out of my control that happened in a flash, and I’ll no doubt be in the hole a grand or more for the damage done to my car. Man, what’s with September 19th for me man?
Anyways, I’m so irritated that I haven’t even taken pictures of the damage. Truthfully it was probably fairly minimal for what could have happened. Dan went with the cop and they couldn’t find the deer– so it probably lived and scampered off somewhere. No one in the car was injured, the car runs fine, so I guess things could have been a lot worse. It still sucks though– how many people actually hit deer when driving?
Arrr… more negative experiences in Utah Valley. The dang Lehi cop I talked to first couldn’t even figure out if I was in Lehi or Pleasant Grove or Alpine from the coordinates I gave him on the phone– that’s how retarded the layout of Utah Valley is. Grrr…
So that’s it folks. I’m cursed, I get bent every Sept. 19th…

Holy FRIG!!! That sucks, man. I’m a believer in the even-steven powers in the universe, man, so hopefully something especially good is around the corner for ya.
lol, It’s not the coordinates in utah valley but is the fact that it was a Lehi Cop, lol, that sums it all up, no more explanation needed. And for the record you were in Highland I am pretty sure, yes?
Probably Highland, who knows. Oh well, I didn’t even know where I was with regards to which “city” I was in in Utah Valley. I just hate how they change the addresses from one city to the next. The north/south stays consistant all the way from North Salt Lake through Draper, though there are several towns in Salt Lake Valley. In UV they stinkin change the way streets are numbered by city– LAME.
so, where are the pics from the wedding???
Holy crap. According to a 20/20 episode I saw a few years ago, hitting a deer is about as dangerous as it gets. After I just looked at some statistics, though, it looks like only 1 in 30 car/deer crashes ends in injury, and only 1 in 6250 ends in a fatality. I was gonna say you’re lucky to be alive, but really chances of an injury, let alone a fatality, are pretty slim, so you really are not all that lucky. It’s just unlucky that you hit the deer in the first place. No good luck there, just bad luck. September 19th really must be a bad day for you. Happy to hear you are ok, though, but man… sucks about the car. I’m sorry.
Muhahhhahhaahahha!!!!!! Welcome to Alpine!!!!
My in-laws live there and they we are aways chasing deer out of their yard and down the street. Their trees look like those chinese ones with the little ball on top because they are always eating them, it is hillarious.
You have my sympathy, I’m always dodging deer on canyon road. For the record you were probably in Lehi, it changes a lot faster than you would think. And I second the comment about the lehi cop.
For real, lehi cops are such arrogant SOB’s. I swear I am always getting pulled over, have recieved two tickets, one was my first of tickets, and I should have contested but was naive so didn’t but I did the second and won. Stupid jerk was so on crack that he should have wrote himself a ticket not me. Either way, can you tell I have an undieing love for lehi cops, let alone lehi city? * rolls her eyes *
Well according to the Lehi / Highland / Alpine cops I was not *quite* in Lehi yet. Blah, I probably could have walked down the road to be in Lehi.
Anyways, thanks Ty for letting me know how unlucky I am, hehe. At least then I can feel justified in being pissed off, hehe. All I can say I hate every trip I have to make down that way… half the time I end up getting lost, the place makes no sense to me and now they have Deer jumping out in front of my car. Next family gathering past the point of the mountain but before Orem I am boycotting.
Kato–
Sorry. I would have happily posted pics from the wedding had I not been pissed about my car, hehe. I’ll get around to it one of these days.
It’ll be interesting to see what befalls me next year on September 19…
Well, bro, I keep telling everyone how my wedding was absolutely beautiful and perfect. And since crazy things tend to befall me, I’m wondering if I was given a break for the day, and the crazy thing found its way to you. Just a thought. But thanks for takin’ the hit for me. 🙂
Yeah Mom said she was just talking to Jesse’s parents or something about how things had gone off so perfectly when she got a call from dad saying I’d been in an accident, heheh.
Well, we’ll just see how expensive this hit was that I took for you– but honestly, seeing as I got hit last year on the 19th as well, I’ll chalk it up to some devilry…
Yeah, i too being go the car was freaked out when we hit the deer, my memory keeps playing in my mind over and over.
